Panorama

I had a nice outing yesterday afternoon after the rain broke. Drove into the park and headed down Chain Of Craters Road. At the 2000 foot level there is a platform with tables, a good place to have lunch if it is not raining. It is always windy, always. I hooked my K100D to a light tripod and took a series of panorama shots just using the level on the tripod. Photoshop stitched 4 together sort of OK but I was able to fix the issues with the clone tool. I made it 6 x 18.5 inches. I know this small image doesn't show much but you get the idea. Emile Danielson

Room interior photographs by Emile Danielson. Emile Danielson 1899-1965 was a very well known photographer working in the New York City area in the 1930’s. Besides being a fine art photographer she made her living as a commercial photographer. She worked for several of the major furniture stores and department stores in the New York area and was commissioned to photograph the interiors of famous homes for magazines similar to Home Beautiful. These are 8x10 photographs on silver gelatin paper I would guess done with a view camera. I have a large collection of these. I will be selling a few on ebay.

Phantom Cruise Ship

The Cruise Ship Miracle. The previous night from when this photograph was taken the bay was empty. In the distance we could see and hear the brightly lighted “party barge” Folks dancing, singing, eating having a wonderful time. But the rest of the bay was dark and empty. The next morning I got up early and looked out on the bay and what to my wondering eyes should appear? A cruise ship, just sitting there, bright white against the dark water. Where did it come from? How did it get there? Later in the afternoon, after I awoke from my nap, it was gone. Not a trace. Very strange.

Painted Church Altar

Carl see the posts. The painting on the back wall makes the church look much bigger than it is. The altar is the back wall of the church. There is a name for that kind of painting technique but I can't remember it right now.

A closer view

Painted Church Interior (cont)

The Temptation Of Jesus. I had a hard time getting these shots framed square as there are posts in front of every painting so I had to kind of shoot around them.

St. Benedict's Catholic Church

Also known as the painted church because of the fresco like painted walls and ceiling.
Built in 1875 it is the oldest Catholic church on the island. For a few years it was Father Damien's parish. Between 1899 and 1904 Father John Velge painted the interior.

Kailua-Kona

We took a short trip, 95 miles to Kailua-Kona. Two cruise ships in port. One from Southhampton England. These folks are on a 2 1/2 month around the world cruise, all three thousand of them. This is a very old, very large banyan tree.

Castello Di Giulio II

Built by Cardinal Giuliano della Rovere between the years 1471 and 1486. In 1503 Cardinal della Rovere was elected Pope. He chose the name Julius II as a reminiscence to Julius Caesar. Want to see more? Go here. http://members.tripod.com/romeartlover/Ostia.html
