That's a wonderful tree. Is everything we see all tree, or is it a tree festooned with some sort of parasite plant?
The stuff that is hanging down are ariel roots that heve dried up. Because all this stuff grows in lava gravel and lava gravel doesn't hold moisture when a tree gets under stress it sends out roots from branches. With time they dry up like these have.
