South Point
Yesterday was a good day for exploring with friends from the mainland, Louie, Illona Aguayo and Illona’s mom. We went to the most southern point in the U.S.A. here on the big island, South Point. From highway 11 you drive 12 miles on a good road, then a rough road, then a tough road and you come to these cliffs. No guard rail and it is about 25 feet to the rocks below. Wind blowing very hard. In the distance you can see the white structures, a wind farm in progress. These two kids are locals and locals have been coming here to fish for hundreds if not thousands of years. The wooden structures are for hauling really big fish, 200 plus pounds, up from the water. A very interesting place. I will go back.
